KURINUKI
HAND CARVED JAPANESE TEA CEREMONY YUNOMI AND CHAWANS
KURINUKI is a carving technique primarily used to make Yunomi (Japanese tea cups without a handle) and small bowels.
Kurinuki is a carving technique primarily used to make Yunomi (Japanese tea cups without a handle) and small bowels. I really enjoy using this method to make tactile miniature ceramic cups - no two of which will ever look the same. These hand carved yunomis may be used for drinking anything from wheatgrass shots to Turkish coffee or even whiskey depending on the occasion. There have been many attempts to make Kurinuki style cups on the wheel but it just doesn’t achieve the desired result. Kurinuki is a slow painstaking technique which requires lots of patience and skill but the results can be quite spectacular.
