AL ANDALUS
PLAQUES AND BAS RELIEF SCULPTURES
The Umayyad dynasty, which originated in Damascus in the 7th century, ruled over a vast multicultural empire in the Middle East and eventually migrated eastward and established the Umayyad Emirate of Cordoba in Spain 100 years later.
The beautiful Moorish geometric and biomorphic patterns of ‘Al Andalus’ are faithfully reproduced in a series of plaques and bas reliefs from the Al Hambra Palace in Grenada. A large bas relief carving measuring 2m x 1.25m is available for purchase either in antique ivory or a teal finish and is supplied with a supporting oak frame if required.
A series of 6 miniatures plaques depicting various elements of the Al Hambra Palace have been created in a variety of colours including turquoise, teal, peach, lemon and antique ivory. The miniatures are available in hand crafted wooden frames and are suitable for indoor or outdoor use.
THERE IS NO VICTOR BUT GOD
“Wala Ghalib illa Allah’ – “There is no victor but God” is inscribed in phrases both short and long on surrounding arches and widows and running along the tops of walls throughout the Al Hambra Palace in Grenada. I offer a deep relief ceramic tile in both a matte and high fired glazed finish of the Wala Ghalib illa Allah piece.
I would like to express my thanks to Adam Williamson and Richard Henry of the Art of Islamic Patterns in the U.K. for the introduction to the fascinating world of sacred geometry and their wonderful workshops on geometric and biomorphic patterns.
